        Maestro John Hewett
John Hewett, a native of Columbia, Missouri, is in his seventh
year as band director in Red Oak Community Schools and
his sixth year as Director of Bands at Red Oak Middle
School.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from
Central College in Pella, Iowa, where he was active in the
band, vocal, orchestra, and music theater departments.  He
is currently in his 22nd year of teaching instrumental music,
having previously taught in Jefferson City, Missouri, and the
Iowa communities of Newton, Denison, and Corning.  His
responsibilities at ROCMS include: 6th grade beginning band
classes for woodwinds, 7th and 8th grade concert and
marching bands, 8th grade jazz band, and 7th and 8th grade
band lessons.

John is active as an adjudicator for the Iowa High School
Music Association, as well as various independent festivals
throughout Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, and Nebraska.  He
continues to serve as guest conductor for various honor
bands in Iowa.  John is a member of the Iowa Bandmasters
Association and Southwest Iowa Bandmasters Association, in
which he served as President during the 2006-2007 school
year.  He is also a member of the Red Oak Education
Association, the Iowa State Education Association, and the
National Education Association.  John directs the Chancel
Choir and the Instruments of Praise at St Paul’s United
Methodist Church in Papillion, Nebraska.  John was recently
selected to the 2007 edition of “Who’s Who Among America’s
Teachers”.  His family includes his wife, Lauri, and three
children: Ethan, age 10; Madison, age 7: and Grayson, age 5.
